Monotremes..

Echidnas are basically the weirdos of the animal kingdom—in the best way possible! These spiky little creatures look like a mix between a hedgehog and an anteater, but they’re actually monotremes, one of the only mammals that lay eggs (the other is the platypus).

nstead of teeth, they have long, sticky tongues to slurp up ants and termites like living vacuum cleaners. And get this—they can even sense electricity with their snouts, helping them find food underground.

Oh, and baby echidnas? They’re called puggles (possibly the cutest name ever). These little guys hatch from eggs and spend time chilling in their mom’s pouch until they’re ready to face the world.

Basically, echidnas are part mammal, part reptile, part living pincushion—and 100% awesome!
