Second chance..
According to legend, Danish architect Jørn Utzon’s design for the Sydney Opera House was originally rejected in the competition. However, judge Eero Saarinen spotted it in the discard pile and gave it a second chance.
The famous “sails” of the Opera House were actually inspired by orange peels! Utzon figured out the design by cutting a sphere into sections.
It was supposed to take 4 years, but it ended up taking 14 years (1959–1973) and cost 15 times more than the original budget.
