The tiny, super-strong farmers of the insect world..

Leaf-cutter ants are basically the ultimate tiny farmers. They don’t actually eat the leaves they cut—oh no, they have bigger plans! These little powerlifters can carry leaf pieces up to 50 times their own body weight (imagine a human hauling a whole car). They take the leaves back to their underground nests to use as fertilizer for their own fungus farms. That’s right, these ants are full-time gardeners, growing the only food they eat: fungus.

Even crazier? Their colonies can have millions of workers, all with different jobs—some cut leaves, some haul them, some take care of the fungus, and some just act as security guards, fending off freeloaders. Basically, they run a tiny, super-efficient farming empire, all without ever needing a coffee break.
